Participants will examine and consider current trends and issues of youth suicide, bullying, cyberbullying, and nonsuicidal self-injurious behaviors. The goal of the Region 11 K-12 Student Mental Health Initiative module is for teachers to become familiar with steps for identifying warning signs and risk factors of self-injurious and suicidal youth, processes for referral and working with school mental health professionals, and how to implement suicide prevention strategies in the classroom.

Participants will examine and gain knowledge of current trends and issues related to non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). School staff and mental health professionals will become familiar with steps on identifying warning signs and risk factors of self-injurious behavior, when and how to intervene with students who are at-risk, and their roles on a school site crisis team.
Participants will consider current trend and issues of cyberbullying, through examining scenarios, testimonials, and suggested curriculum examples on cyberbullying prevention. The goal of Region 11 K-12 Student Mental Health Initiative is to guide pre-service teachers, administrators, and school mental health professionals to be familiar with issues of cyberbullying, signs of bullying or being targeted, steps for intervention and referral after a target has been identified.
Participants will consider current trends and issues of bullying, through examining scenarios, testimonials, and suggested curriculum examples on bullying prevention. The goal of Region 11 K-12 Student Mental Health Initiative is to guide teachers, administrators, and school mental health professionals and nurses to be familiar with bullying, recognizing indicators of bullying, identifying best practices to prevent or respond to bullying and working with the perpetrators and targets of bullying.
Participants will examine and understand the 3 types of depression and different methods for treatment. School staff and mental health professionals will become familiar with steps on identifying warning signs and risk factors of depression, when and how to intervene with students who are at-risk, and their roles in a school site crisis team.
The goals of this course are to provide an overview of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning students and to examine of the factors that protect or place them at greater risk for suicide. The objective of this course is to guide pre-service teachers, administrators, and school mental health professionals to ways of how to make schools safer for LGBTQ youth through creating a culture of kindness and connectedness.
